Canterbury and Hever Castle
We believe to fully appreciate
Hever Castle and all that Canterbury
has to offer the visitor, you need a full day tour. We realise that there are many other
tours on offer, which squeeze in other places along the way. We, however, think that
to fully appreciate the day you need more than just a whistle stop tour.
Collection from your hotel and start our journey to Canterbury.
On arrival at the ancient walled city we visit the Cathedral where Thomas Beckett was murdered in 1170.
Free time to visit the City Centre, which by day is closed to traffic.
We highly recommend the Canterbury Tales. Step back in time, over 500 years. Join Geoffrey
Chaucer and his pilgrims on their journey from Tabard Inn, London to the Shrine of Thomas Beckett
in Canterbury Cathedral. Free time for lunch. Canterbury has many traditional or if you prefer
cosmopolitan, lunch options. After lunch depart for Hever Castle.
We arrive at the thirteenth century
Hever Castle. Childhood home of its most famous inhabitant
Henry VIII’s wife Anne Boleyn. Later the Castle passed ownership to Henrys fourth wife Anne of
Cleves. The Castle is set in magnificent gardens featuring a thirty five acre lake, wonderful rose
gardens and a yew maze. We are sure that the children will enjoy the "Splashing Water Maze" on
Sixteen Acre Island and the Adventure Playground. Be sure to visit the costumed figures of Henry
VIII’s six wives within the castle. There is also an exhibition "From Castle to Country Houses"
depicting life dating from 1086 to 1901.
Late afternoon we leave the castle to return to your hotel.
Please note this tour only operates from 1st March – 30th November. The Yew Maze and the Splashing
Water Maze are open, subject to weather conditions, from April – October.
