Hampton Court, Windsor Castle and Eton
We start our day at the Henry VIII former home of
Hampton Court Palace.
Founded in 1516 by Cardinal Wolsey – it was later taken from him by Henry VIII, for himself.
Located on the River Thames and in beautifully landscaped gardens. Some of the must
sees here are the sumptuous State Apartments, The Kings Apartments and The Tudor Kitchens
as though they are in a time warp.
Onto Windsor Castle founded by William the Conqueror on a strategic Site with far
reaching views and within a day’s march of the Tower of London.
This official residence of the Queen is over 900 years old. Free time to visit
the gothic St. George’s Chapel where over ten sovereigns are buried. The State Apartments,
which have been fully restored after the fire in 1992, at a cost of £37 million pounds.
The apartments house paintings from the Royal Collection which include Rembrandt, Van Dyck and
Reuben. Free to explore the narrow cobbled streets of Windsor and time for lunch. Across the
river is a short walk to Eton, a one street village lined with antique dealers and bookshops.
Famous throughout the world for Eton College. Several Prime Ministers and members of the Royal
Family have studied here. The school was founded in 1440 to provide free of charge education to
70 poor scholars. How times have changed with today’s fees costing approximately £23,000 per annum.
Whilst here ensure a visit to the original 15th Century classroom – believed to be the world’s
oldest classroom.
